Philadelphia Basher Jon Stewart Nominated For New Jersey Hall Of ...

Daily Show host Jon Stewart, who often makes a habit out of taking pot shots at the City of Brotherly Love, was recently announced as a nominee for the 2015 New Jersey Hall of Fame.

According to the Hall’s website, Stewart is one of 50 potential inductees, which also includes the Isley Brothers, former Yankees great Derek Jeter, and actors Eddie Murphy and Joe Pesci. Previous Hall inductees include singers Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston, as well as many professional athletes, actors, politicians, and the victims of 9/11.

Stewart, who grew up in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, has made it quite clear he holds no ambivalence towards Philadelphia, the city where his wife was born. Last year, Stewart went on a rant about cheesesteaks, the Phillie Phanatic and several other Philadelphia traditions after Phillies’ manager Ryne Sandberg came down with food poisoning from a hamburger bought at Citi Field.

A more recent incident took place when actress and Allentown native Amanda Seyfried stopped by Stewart’s show and discussed her harrowing addition for the role of Annie on Broadway, which took place in Philadelphia. Several weeks ago, Stewart was discussing Indiana’s controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act and stated that “People from Indiana are no nicer or s******* than people anywhere else. Except Philly. That’s the worst.” Although Stewart usually apologizes for his random outbursts, he clearly has no issues about giving the city a hard time.

New Jersey Hall of Fame inductees are chosen by the public through the Hall’s website. Voting ends during the first week of June.

The Daily Show’s final episode with Jon Stewart will air Thursday, August 6. No word on whether he’ll take one final dig at Philadelphia on his last show.
