23rd August 2015 – 21st Sunday of of Ordinary Time (B) | Church Of ...

LORD, TO WHOM SHALL WE GO
This is the last in the series of five Sunday gospel readings from Chapter 6 of the Gospel of John, the bread of life discourse.  It is a sort of crunch time, the teaching is hard and many of Jesus’ followers ask how anybody could accept it.  They leave him, and Jesus turns to the apostles.  He does not say: “please stay,” but “do you want to go away too?” God invites us but does not force us to be disciples.  Peter’s answer lifts our hearts, as it lifted Jesus’ heart at the time:  “Lord, who shall we go to? You have the message of eternal life, and we believe; we know, that you are the Holy One of God.”
