Two invitation days were held last week for members and their guests, the first one was a four person team event and the second one was a scramble. On Wednesday last it was the turn of the male members to have an invitation day in the form of a 4 person team and this ended in victory for Anselm Molloy and his 3 guests who won the event with a score of 88 points. They were a point clear of their nearest challengers led by John McDermott who in turn just beat John Joe O’Farrell’s team on a countback.
On Thursday last the Ladies Invitation Day took place and this was a 3 person scramble stroke. This was won by the Geraldine Higgins led team with a score of 50½ from Niamh Strudwick’s team who scored 52¾ with Myra Phelan’s team filling third place on a score of 56 shots.
In the Golfer of the Year competition the lead in the men’s section is held by Paul Madigan with 34 points. He is 6 points clear of Sean Brett with Martin O’Halloran and Michael Brennan in third and fourth place respectively. The ladies section is led by Ruth Mulholland on a score of 55 points and she is 3 points clear of Bernie Madigan. Karan Murphy and Geraldine Higgins are in third and fourth position some way off the pace.
