No. Not even close. The official attendance at the last game at (this) Yankee Stadium was only 54,610. It was only the 18th largest crowd this YEAR in the Stadium.


The record for the Old Yankee Stadium was 74,747 on May 16th, 1947. It was a night game vs the Boston Red Sox.


With the remodel in 1976, the capacity of Yankee Stadium dropped under 55,000.


I think (not 100% sure) the single game , regular season record for attendance was 80,227 at Mile High Stadium in Denver in the Rockies third home game ever.


Game 5 of the 1959 World Series between the Dodgers and the White Sox drew 92,762 fans at the LA Coliseum


On May 7, 1959 The Dodgers hosted the Yankees in an exhibition game in the LA Colesium for Roy Campanella Day. The attendance was 93,103.


In March of this year the Guinness Book of World Records certified that the exhibition played at the LA Colesium played March 29 with a crowd of 115,300 to see the exhibition between the Red Sox and the Dodgers, as the “Largest Attendance at a Baseball Game.”

Whether or not that was truely the largest crowd ever to see a baseball game is not as simple of an answer as you might think.


There were a few other games rumoured to have been seen by over 100,000 people;


1936 in Germany, an exhibition between German baseball players against American Olympians from other sports supposedly had 108,000 to 125,000


In Japan in 1934, the american All-Stars were touring and may have drawn over 100,000 to one or more games that year.


White Auto vs Omaha, played in Cleveland’s Brookside stadium October 10, 1915, with an estimate crowd of 100,000 – 115,000.

There’s also a picture of a game in Cleveland in 1914 between the Telling’s Strollers and Hanna’s Cleaners where the estimated crowd may have been over 100,000.

The largest crowds at Yankee Stadium weren’t for ball games. Billy Graham reportedly drew over 100,000 there in 1957. A Jehovah’s Witness gathering drew over 123,000 in 1958. Some of the boxing matches in the 1930′s drew 80-90,000.
