MEN: LORAS 72, WARTBURG 64

The men’s team saw their hot start to conference play end at the hands of a Loras team that was previously winless in IIAC play.

Loras jumped out to a 6-0 lead just 1:38 into the game but the Knights stormed back for a 36-33 halftime lead.

The Duhawks got a quick start to the half once again as this time a 7-0 run put them up 40-36, a lead that extended to 67-56 with 2:30 to play.

The Knights could not overcome the deficit and fell 72-64 — their lowest scoring output in Iowa Conference play.

Wartburg shot 46.9 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from 3-point range while the Duhawks were 53.6 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Leading scorer Eddie Diemer struggled for the Knights, scoring 7 points and pulling down just one board while fouling out in 20 minutes of action.

Thomas Perkins tied a career high to lead the Knights in scoring with 17 points while Mitchell Murphy continued his hot streak with 14 points but had just one assist.

Wartburg was out-rebounded 36-22 as their five-game winning streak came to an end.

The Knights (10-6, 5-1) host Luther (12-5, 5-1) Wednesday in a game that will still have first place in the IIAC on the line as the Norse fell in overtime to Dubuque.

Wartburg then hosts Loras (6-11, 1-5) Saturday at 4 p.m. in a game in which they will surely be looking for revenge.
